The Story

Lynn is the perfect classical violinist by day, secretly writing emo punk anthems by night. David, an ethical vegan, works reluctantly at his mother's Chinese BBQ shop, feeling like an imposter surrounded by meat hooks while dreaming of escape to a vegan paradise. Peter, a Latin-Asian fusion cooking prodigy, hides his passion from a father who sees cooking as shameful and pushes him toward medicine instead.
When a devastating fire hospitalizes David's exhausted mother, Christine Yan, their carefully balanced double lives come crashing down. Lynn begins to crack under the weight of everyone's expectations, using music as her only escape. Peter's culinary dreams are exposed, and he's cast out by his own father. David drowns in guilt and mounting medical debt. With their community's anchor restaurant on life support, the three realize that saving Chinatown means more than preserving the past—it means having the courage to create something new: the "Taste of Chinatown" festival, fusing their hidden selves into one unprecedented collaboration.

The story takes place in a Chinatown at a crossroads. Family-run restaurants that have nourished generations are disappearing, squeezed by gentrification, economic hardship, and the changing realities of immigrant life. Every street carries the weight of history, yet every new development raises the question of what will remain.
For the children of those who built the neighborhood, Chinatown is both home and burden. It is a place filled with love, obligation, memory, and dreams that stretch beyond its borders. As the community fights to survive, so too do the people trying to redefine what belonging looks like for the next generation.
The Characters
The Kids
David Yan: Late teens, Chinese American. A self-righteous vegan and lifelong Chinatown kid who dreams of escaping both Chinatown and his mother's expectations that he'll take over the family restaurant.
Peter Sanchez: Late teens, Dominican and Korean. A chemistry whiz kid groomed for pre-med, Peter secretly applies his scientific brilliance to the kitchen, where cooking becomes his true passion.
Lynn Huang: Late teens, Taiwanese American. A model daughter, master violinist, and lion dance team captain with a secret inner life that pulses with emo music she doesn't yet have the courage to claim.
